When couples hire me as a wedding day of coordinator or full-service wedding planner, one of the perks is that I come with a ridiculously stocked day of wedding emergency kit! If you don’t have a wedding planner, it’s a good idea to pack your own wedding emergency kit since there are always unexpected hiccups throughout the wedding day, whether for the wedding couple or those in the bridal party.
At my wedding just last weekend, I had bridesmaids with blisters, groomsmen with blisters (they were sockless!), mother of the bride needing straps cut, groom needing to be lint rolled, a guest needing safety pins for her dress and lots of tissues for the ceremony!
If you’re new around here, I’m Kristen. A wedding planner with over 10 years of experience and the founder of virtual wedding planning subscription, Plan On Demand. Plan On Demand gives you direct access to award-winning wedding planners via text message. I also always have a printed day-of wedding timeline, contact list for all of the vendors and copies of the contracts. Keep in mind, I have to be prepared for the WORST at all times, every single weekend. So, while I don’t think you need a 45 item emergency kit, I do think you need something. Below is a list of what we’re most commonly asked for at weddings.
What you should pack in your kit.
- Advil or Tylenol
- Tums
- Bandaids
- Safety pins
- Scissors
- Eyelash glue
- Hairspray
- Lint roller
- Sewing kit
- iPhone Charger
- Steamer
- Tampons
- Mints
- Tissues
- Fashion tape
- Crochet Hook (only if you have a ton of buttons! if not, forego this)
A day of wedding emergency kit can be a lifesaver on your big day. By packing the items we’ve listed above, you should be prepared for any unexpected emergencies that might arise. I’d like to point out, however, that if you are getting married in a more remote or rural area, where a drug store or pharmacy is not near by, you should consider packing more than just the 15 items I listed for you. If you’re in a city or more urban area where someone can run out easily to pick up something that might be needed, you’re probably just fine with the few essential items! When in doubt, over prepare. Most of these items are trial-sized and useful in everyday life, so you can pack them for your honeymoon or just have in your car!
